A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed yesterday between the Central Bank of Eswatini and Eswatini Competition Commission (ECC) to facilitate co-ordination on competition issues within the banking and payments sector, among other objectives.Speaking during the signing ceremony held at the Bank, the Governor stated that both regulators support and advocate for competition. “Competition pushes industry to be more sensitive to the needs of the consumers. When you have competition in an industry the ultimate winner will always be the customers,” he said. Sharing his sentiments, ECC CEO, Muzi Dlamini said, “We are glad to have achieved this milestone which we believe will go a long way in promoting competitiveness within the sector.” As regulators of key economic activity in the country, co-operation between the two regulators is key.
